Depending on the ice conditions and weather we will choose the route for this Svalbard photo expedition. It will be varying from year to year and the ice conditions is the most important consideration we do before deciding where to go.
  • During our expedition you can expect to see wildlife as Polar Bears, Walruses, Seals, Whales, Arctic Foxes, Svalbard Reindeer and a variety of bird species that are common in these Arctic regions.

Day 13

  • Disembark the ship after breakfast
  • Fly back to Oslo
  • We say goodbye and hope to meet again in the near future.

** Please book your return flight from Oslo after 5pm on Day 13.

Practical information:

  • It is a few stretches we can have some rough sea. Mostly just the first day if it is windy. We always recommend guests to take some seasickness medication 3 to 6 hours before we leave the harbor. After that in the ice and in the fjords it’s never that rough. It happens maybe 2 out of 20 trips that we have such weather that people get seasick - and then its not for a long time.
  • With our chartered ship, we are able to really explore the drift ice north and east of Svalbard.
  • Due to new environmental regulations on Svalbard, this extreme trip tale you into the drift ice - outside the areas affected by the new regulations.
  • The route illustrated in the map on this page is just a estimate for where we will sail. It probably will be changed depending on the ice conditions. Maybe we have to sail much further to the north to reach the ice.
  • Currency in Longyearbyen is Norwegian Kroner (NOK).
  • The time for the meals can be changed daily according to ongoing activity and interesting wildlife or other happenings in the field.

Safety and Activity Level: Easy

  • moderate activity including medium distances to walk and some steps and cold winter conditions.
  • Our safety will have top priority during the entire photo expedition and security will be provided by the Svalbard expedition leaders, guides and the crew. We adhere to all applicable safety regulations, especially with regards to polar bears.
  • This also pertains to use of the Zodiac boats (inflatable’s) in close proximity to icebergs and glacial edges where there may be elements of risk which are not apparent. The safer we feel, the easier it will be for all participants to concentrate on nature and photographic opportunities.

Travel insurance

We strongly recommend trip cancellation and medical evacuation insurance.

Because many advance logistical arrangements have been made prior to the operation of these trips, we must strictly adhere to the above cancellation policy. In addition, you should be aware that some medical insurance policies do not cover your expenses, including medical evacuation while travelling in a foreign country. We will not be held responsible for missed connections, incorrect check-in times, improper documentation, and/or lost, stolen or damaged luggage. Any additional expenses caused by late or cancelled transportation carriers will be borne by the traveler.

Clothing and carrying supplies suggestions

  • Temperatures range from -2C to 5C during this time.
  • wear waterproof jacket/trousers and knee-high rubber boots, warm winter coat, insulated pants to wear over your inside pants, large warm mitts, thin gloves you can easily operate the camera, warm hats, warm socks and sunglasses
  • In addition to the required changes of underwear/socks, please do not bring too many duplicate or similar outerwear.

Photography equipment recommendations

  • Camera , 200-600 zoom, 500-800mm prime, 14mm~24mm Wide-angle lens, mono-pod,  tripod, spare battery and lots of memory cards.

** Carry important photography equipment as much as possible. Remember that the carry-on luggage should not exceed seven kilograms, and tripods cannot be placed in carry-on luggage.

Welcome on board

  • With an engine capacity three times higher than most other ships in this category, and a ‘DNV ICE 5’ ice class corresponding to some of the most powerful ships in the arctic, this opens up a whole new horizon for Arctic Wildlife Tours and our photographers. Out in the international waters of the pack ice is where you find the real kingdom of the polar bear, and this is where we want to take you.
  • Expect a warm and rich Norwegian cruising when you are travelling with us. the ship is not your average ultra-luxurious cruise ship. She is a hardcore expedition vessel, perfectly adapted for wildlife photographers that are looking for a real adventure and to be able to be where the action is. The cabins has several public washrooms. There are also two single WC, in addition to the showers.
